Job Description

This position is performance based and is suitable for someone who has extensive practical experience in people mangement and has managed a large motor parts warehouse/plant/workshop.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Tasks

Duties and Responsibilities

A. Operational  Functions

Co-Ordination and Supervision

Interprets and co-ordinates specific pre-work/ site requirements with regards to repairs and, planned and predictive maintenance sequences and guides the activities of personnel, by

  • Communicating with the immediate supervisor and establishing material and resources necessary against specific works orders.
  • Ensuring of correct planning
  • Interacting with the general Stores and checking allocated components and materials against job cards prior to commencing with JOB.
  • Providing guidelines and specific instructions to personnel with respect to the preparation of work for major/ minor repair and servicing
  • Attending to deviations in performance or disciplinary/ conflict issues and counseling personnel to correct/ adjust behavior prior to applying laid down disciplinary procedures. In order to ensure requirements are co-ordinate and instructions communicated and auctioned. 


Information Recording

Completes internal transactional documentation (e.g. Job cards, strip requests, service and maintenance sheets, on the job training forms to be completed,  progress and productivity report, etc.) and related forms (equipment availability report)

Inserting the relevant information (quantitative/ qualitative) and/ or details of activities.

Referring to work schedules arranging overtime where and when required, motivating staff during strenuous times by availing yourself for overtime with staff.

B. Mechanical Functions

Planned and Preventative  Maintenance

Co-ordinates activities and sequences associated with maintaining the functionality of petrol/ diesel driven Mechanical Plant and vehicles, by providing support to mechanics when;

  • Doing Repairs to all plant
  • Checking the status of equipment serviceability
  • QC Control/ Driving and testing vehicles to assess operating functionality and safety.

In order to ensure scheduled planned and predictive maintenance cycle and work procedures are compiled enabling uninterrupted and optimum functionality of vehicles and plant

Key Deliverables

  • Ensure the smooth day to day running of the mechanical workshop
  • Be resolute in focusing on result and, if it is threatened  be prepared to resolve problems


Fault Finding/ Repairs

Co-ordinates activities/ sequence associated with trouble shooting /fault-finding and repairing mechanical breakdowns by providing support to mechanics when they are:

  • Diagnosing faults through the application of visual and other related mechanical inspection and investigation procedures
  • Removing and replacing defective parts with re-conditioned or new spares
  • Check the functionality of replacement parts and executive the necessary adjustment and setting sequences

In order to ensure faults are detected and repaired  and functionality  restored with minimal destruction 



Qualifications & Experience

·         Grade 12 and Operational Management or related qualification

·         Full computer Literacy (Excel, GANTT Advantageous)

·         3 -5 years’  experience in a managerial position

·         Artisan background advantageous

·         Ground services equipment (Trepel, TLD, JBT, FMCect)

·         Sound financial analysis (P&L, GL knowledge a must )

·         Mandatory: Corporate induction, Dangerous goods, Airside induction, Security awareness, ISO awareness
